Man appears in court to face charges over massive drug seizure in Limerick village

A 45-YEAR-OLD man has appeared before Limerick District Court charged in connection with a substantial drug seizure in Bruree on Friday. 

Peter Vodros, with an address at the Lane, Main Street, Bruree, Limerick appeared in court wearing a dark jacket and tracksuit bottoms. 

Mr Vodros has been formally charged with two counts of possession of cannabis for the purpose of sale or supply contrary to the Misuse of Drugs Act. The offences are alleged to have occurred at Bruree on Friday, January 2.

Gardaí reported a seizure of almost €200,000 worth of drugs at a premises in Bruree on Friday.

Garda Cormac Ryan, giving brief evidence in court on Monday, said that the defendant was arrested just before 8 pm on Sunday, January 4. 

Mr Vodros required a Slovak interpreter to communicate the court proceedings to him. 

Solicitor Sarah Ryan stated that her client's “circumstances are not good” and requested Judge Patricia Harney to grant him legal aid.  

The defendant was granted bail with a number of conditions, including that he sign on daily at a garda station, that he observe a curfew, that he surrender his ID travel card and that he does not apply for any duplicated travel documents. 

The case will come again before the courts in April for instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions. 

A woman in her thirties was previously detained in connection with the seizure.
