THE CROOM Community Development Association is calling on the Government to support their thriving town and help them to grow with “much-needed infrastructure”.
They are requesting improved bus services, as well as a completed distributor road.

CEO of Croom Community Development Association (CCDA) Patricia Ryan said: “We have what is deemed a distributor road, but is in reality a cul-de-sac. Completion of this road would allow for some ease in traffic, facilitate the primary school and, perhaps, assist with afternoon traffic.
“If this route was completed, it would also allow for an improved bus service to accommodate patients, visitors and employees of the hospital.”
Croom has received funding under the 2025 Town and Village Renewal Scheme.
Under the funding, €50,000 was granted.
This is to be used for the design and progression to planning of public realm improvements to the open market square area of the village and the redevelopment of the former post office building.
Over the past year and a half, housing has become available at Camoge Park, while two developments by Croom voluntary housing have also been completed.
However, CCDA believes that the town can accommodate more housing, but they need the support of Uisce Éireann.
Ms Ryan said: “Croom is ambitious and sees the advantages of the community expansion and recognises where investment is needed.”
While the M20 upgrade will relieve traffic backlog at busy commuter times, it will also push all school traffic through the town and bus stops will need to be recessed, the CCDA argues.
Croom is home to almost 2,000 residents with employment from the Croom Orthopaedic Hospital, Croom Medical, Croom Concrete and businesses based in the enterprise centre, which has been granted permission for expansion, along with established family-run businesses in Croom.
Ms Ryan explained that Croom has a vibrant and active community.
A number of trees have been planted near the new housing developments and schools, adding to the aesthetics and also the biodiversity.
They run a number of successful events throughout the year, such as hosting the 2025 Fleadh Cheoil Luimnigh, an Easter egg hunt in the town park, a 10km event on St Patrick’s Day, events for senior citizens and a craft market, along with other seasonal events.
