A WOMAN who tragically died in a house fire in Limerick city this weekend has been named locally as Marguerite (Marge) Neville, aged in her 60s.
Emergency services were alerted to the fire at a residence in Chesterfield Downs, Singland at approximately 5.30pm on Saturday evening. Four appliances from Limerick Fire and Rescue rushed to the house but it's understood the blaze was well established upon arrival.
A female was pronounced deceased at the scene. She has been named locally as Ms Neville, mum-of-two adult children.
Príomh Chomhairleoir of Limerick City and County Council, Cllr Catherine Slattery said she was very saddened to hear of the tragic death of Ms Neville.
“She was well-known and well-liked. She worked in Dunnes Stores in the Parkway Shopping Centre. She has only just recently retired. It's extremely sad to hear of this tragic news,” said Cllr Slattery, who expressed her condolences to Ms Neville’s family, friends, and neighbours.
“It's just devastating for the community and so, so very sad. May she rest in peace,” said Cllr Slattery.

A number of people, who knew Ms Neville, took to Facebook to pay tribute.
She was described as “the nicest you could ever meet”; “an absolute lady, may she rest in heavenly peace” and “a lovely person who will be missed”.
No other injuries were reported. The scene has been preserved for a technical examination
The outcome of a post-mortem examination will determine the course of the garda investigation.
It is understood that foul play is not suspected at this time.
