'Positive impact': Limerick communities gear up for 2026 Tidy Towns

PREPARATIONS for the 2026 SuperValu Tidy Towns Competition have commenced with the annual Limerick Tidy Towns seminar, held at Limerick Council’s Council Chamber in Dooradoyle.

Participation from Limerick communities continues to grow, with 57 entries recorded in 2025.

This year’s seminar provided volunteers with a valuable networking and advice clinic, featuring the following expert presentations: Helen Kenneally, environmental awareness officer, Limerick City and County Council on Sustainable Practical Supports for Tidy Towns Groups, Elaine O’Connor, Ryder Cup co-ordinator, Limerick on Limerick Tidy Towns Engagement for the Ryder Cup Event, Dr Simon Jennings, executive scientist, Limerick City Council on A Soundscape Approach to Investigating Green Spaces and Kate Janeczek, staff officer, Limerick Council on Limerick Going for Gold Environment and Climate Action Improvement Grant and Competition 2026.

Each Tidy Towns entrant receives funding through Pobal, with groups currently meeting to identify and progress projects focused on waste prevention and biodiversity enhancement.

In the coming weeks, the Limerick Going for Gold Environment and Climate Action Grant and Competition will be launched. Together with Pobal funding, these vital supports will have a visible sustainable impact across Limerick throughout the 2026 Tidy Towns campaign.
