Graffiti wipeout? Some markings must go within 24 hours under Limerick plans

Limerick City and County Council invites companies to tender for new deep-cleaning contract

Graffiti wipeout? Some markings must go within 24 hours under Limerick plans

THE removal of certain graffiti within 24 hours of it being reported will be one of the requirements of a new company set to be appointed by council to carry out deep cleans of the city.

Limerick City and County Council has invited businesses to bid for a contract to carry out power washes of the streets.

The local authority has published a number of conditions on any company which wins the contract to carry out the cleansing.

In the invite for contractors, the council is asking companies to outline a call-out charge for the removal of graffiti with both an “urgent and general” response.

“Urgent response will be within 24 hours of notification, general to be within five working days,” the council’s invitation states.

It will be the council which decides whether graffiti removal is classed as “urgent” or “general”, the notice states.

The successful contractor will be expected to be able to provide cold cleaning with and without detergent, hot wash with, or without detergent.

As well as this, chewing gum removal is also required from any successful company.

The contractor would be expected to provide all equipment and cleaning agents as required.

These cleaning agents will be PH neutral to enable them to clean without damaging surfaces, stripping paint, sealants or finishes.

These cleaning agents must also be compatible with ProtectIt 100 PR sealant, which is a clear, breathable protection product applied to porous building surfaces like concrete paving, brick, stone and marble to make them harder to stain, dirty, or damage.

Any deep clean of the city must only be carried out before 6:30am and 9pm.

Although if works are required outside these hours, it can be arranged with Limerick City and County Council.

Companies have until March 6 to register an interest in the new contract.
