A WOMAN who was detected driving at a speed of 166km in a 120km zone has been convicted of careless driving and fined.

The court heard that on February 27, 2025, at 3.30pm in the afternoon, Ms Baran was detected driving over the speed limit in the Patrickswell area.

The court heard that the careless driving charge was brought forward on the basis of the speed she was travelling - 46kms over the limit.

The court heard that Ms Baran has no previous convictions.

Ms Baran's solicitor Joseph Mannix, based in Tralee, told the court that his client was on her way to an appointment with her five-year-old son who was “having significant difficulties.”

“She was going to physio in the city and she's profusely apologetic,” Mr Mannix said.

He said that his client's son needed assistance at that time and that she was anxious about potentially missing the appointment.

“She was fearful she would be late,” he said.

Mr Mannix told the court that Ms Baran is married to an Irish man and is in the process of applying for Irish citizenship.

He said that she runs a cleaning business with her husband in Killarney.

Judge Carol Anne Coolican convicted the woman of careless driving.

Judge Coolican imposed a fine of €500 and Ms Baran was given 12 months to pay the fine.
