Limerick gardai probe serious assault involving man released from prison

Gardai in Henry Street are investigating the assault

UP TO 10 gardai responded to a serious altercation in the city centre on Wednesday night.

Limerick Live understands one of those involved was a man who was released from prison recently and is well-known to gardai.

It is believed that the man had been asked to leave a number of city pubs by staff earlier in the evening. 

Following a media query from Limerick Live, a garda spokesperson confirmed: “Gardaí received a report of an alleged incident of assault at a premises in the O’Connell Street area of Limerick city on Wednesday, February 25 at approximately 10pm.”

Up to 10 gardai rushed to the scene to intervene and assist the injured party. The extent of injuries suffered by the victim is not known but they are not thought to be life threatening.

“Investigations are ongoing,” said the garda spokesperson.

Anybody who witnessed the assault, or has camera footage, and can assist gardai is asked to contact investigating gardai in Henry Street on 061 212400 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
