LIMERICK County TDs and ministers, Niall Collins and Patrick O’Donovan have welcomed confirmation that 603 payments totaling €400,884 to local farmers have commenced for scheme year two of the Dairy Beef Welfare Scheme.
The Dairy Beef Welfare Scheme provides support to dairy farmers to improve the animal health and welfare of the national dairy herd by using better genetic merit beef sires.
This is the second year of the scheme as part of the CAP Strategic Plan with payments issued in respect of eligible calves born on applicants’ holdings between January 1, 2025 and December 31, 2025.

Mr Collins said: “The scheme supports both dairy and beef farmers in Limerick who recognise the benefits from the greater integration of the beef and dairy herds that this scheme supports.”
Mr O'Donovan said: “This funding announcement underlines Fine Gael’s commitment to backing beef and dairy farmers in Limerick with practical schemes delivering real value for families.”
Payment of €20 per eligible calf will be made to eligible Limerick participants in coming days.
