Marty Hogan is to be the grand marshal of the St Patrick's Day parade in Savannah, Georgia this year

A BUSINESSMAN, who can trace his family’s roots back to Mary Street, in the city centre is set to lead one of the largest St Patrick’s Day parades in the world.

Martin S Hogan is gearing up to be the grand marshal of this year’s spectacle in Savannah, Georgia.

One of the most significant events worldwide, the Savannah parade is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of people to the city’s streets.

As the grand marshal of the parade in Savannah, Mr Hogan can choose a theme.

He has picked Time, Talent and Treasure, something he says rings deeply personally to himself.

“My mother Bernadette Munson Hogan instilled the importance in me as a young boy. She taught my six siblings and me the way we use our time and talents are the true value of our character and will one day be the legacy or treasure we leave behind,” he wrote in a letter to the city of Savannah.

Savannah’s parade takes place on St Patrick’s Day itself, March 17.
