A FIRM which has helped deliver a number of high-profile sporting developments across Ireland is the engineering lead on Limerick GAA’s new centre of excellence in Crecora.

Limerick man Tom Mackey has been engaged by the county board as the design team lead for the last 12 months.

“The project has been developed by Tobin in conjunction with Limerick GAA and the design team from initial feasibility through to the current planning stage and represents a flagship project for Limerick GAA which will provide a state-of-the-art facility for the training and development of all current and future GAA players throughout the county,” said Mr Mackey, a technical director at Tobin.

The firm, which also has bases in Galway, Dublin, Castlebar and Sligo, is responsible for a new running track at University of Limerick.

Within the GAA, the firm led the way on developing the Connacht Centre of Excellence near Ballyhaunis in Mayo.

It is also responsible for developing the GAA National Games Development Centre in Abbotstown, Dublin.

The redevelopment of McGovern Park in Ruislip, west London, was also led by the firm, providing a state-of-the-art facility for the Exiles association.

It has also worked on redevelopments of the Morton Stadium in the Irish capital, and the relaying of the pitch at the Kingspan, home to Ulster Rugby.

While Tobin is the project manager on this development, a talented team from Limerick has been put together.

Among these are Healy Partner Architects, located at Glentworth Street in the city centre, Town and Country Resources Limited at O’Curry Street.

They are joined by Don O’Malley and Partners, based at O’Connell Street, plus Cunnane Stratton Reynolds from Dublin and Edward Cotter Partnership, which has its base in Cork.
