Hospital reveals plans for multi-million euro expansion of clinic in Limerick

BEACON Limerick is planning to expand its clinic in the city centre.

The private healthcare provider has already secured permission from council for what it says will be a “significant” expansion of its premises in Barrington Street.

The move, which will double patient capacity, is being delivered on a phased basis.

Seven new consultation rooms and a newly designed reception area will be completed by September 2026.

This will be followed by the opening of a purpose-built extension in January 2027, which will house a new on-site MRI service bringing advanced diagnostic imaging to the heart of Limerick city.

Beacon says the expansion will increase access to consultants and specialties for patients in the region.

These specialties include gynaecology, urology, spine, thoracic, orthopaedics, pain management, and respiratory medicine, alongside access to additional consultant cardiologists within Beacon Hospital’s network.

Beacon Hospital chief executive Michael Cullen said: “The addition of MRI and expanded clinical facilities ensures that patients in Limerick can access high-quality, advanced diagnostics without having to travel. It is an important milestone not just for Beacon, but for healthcare provision in the Mid-West region.”
