Limerick choir presents an evening of musical reflection and renewal

Limerick Choral Union are gearing up for their spring concert Awakening at UCH, Limerick

LIMERICK Choral Union (LCU) is set to perform its spring concert Awakening at University Concert Hall, Limerick.

The night of music will take place on Saturday, April 18. Under the baton of Musical Director Malcolm Green, this programme brings together choir, orchestra, and distinguished soloists in a powerful celebration of renewal, reflection, joy and of hope.

The concert features two deeply expressive and contrasting masterpieces: Dan Forrest’s ‘Requiem for the Living’ and Antonio Vivaldi’s beloved ‘Gloria’. Together, these works capture the emotional and spiritual essence of awakening, perfectly reflecting the sense of rebirth and new beginnings associated with spring.

Forrest’s ‘Requiem for the Living’ offers a profoundly moving passage from darkness into light. Rather than focusing solely on mourning, the work speaks to those who live on, offering comfort, healing, and a message of resilience and peace. This beautiful and stunning work breathes new life into the familiar Requiem text, moving stillness into hope.

LCU will be joined by its dedicated orchestra and two outstanding soloists: acclaimed mezzo-soprano Gemma Ní Bhriain and soprano Sarah Shine, whose musicianship will bring extra brilliance to the performance.

Under Malcolm Green’s expert leadership, the ensemble continues its long tradition of presenting choral music of the highest standard to audiences in Limerick and abroad. This special spring concert marks a highlight of Limerick’s culture events in 2026.
