'Bualadh bos': National recognition for society in Limerick college

Thrilled Mary I Cumann Gaelach CMGS members accepting the Most Improved Society award

CUMANN Gaelach CMGS in Limerick's Mary Immaculate College has been awarded the title of Most Improved Society at the national BICS Awards (Board of Irish College Societies) in Tullamore.

Joseph Cosgrove, Cisteoir Cumann Gaelach CMGS, said: “This is a hugely significant achievement for our society, for Mary Immaculate College, and for the promotion of Irish language and culture among young people.”

Joseph said they are especially proud that this is the first time ever that a society from Mary Immaculate College has won this national award.

“As a smaller college, this makes the recognition all the more meaningful. We are also proud to be the first Cumann Gaelach to receive this award, which reflects the growing energy and enthusiasm around Gaeilge on our campus and beyond,” said Joseph.

Over the past year, the society has undergone enormous growth, he said.

“Membership has increased significantly, our events programme expanded greatly, and following the success of the first ever Bál Gaelach in Limerick, our membership saw a 200% increase.

“This award recognises not only that growth in numbers, but the strong sense of community, culture, and visibility we have worked hard to build in Mary Immaculate College,” said Joseph.
