Gardaí arrested and charged a man in his early 20s following an incident in Longford town early this morning
A man is to appear in court after being allegedly found in the possession of a knife in Longford town during the early hours of this morning, the Leader can reveal.
The man, who is in his early 20s and not from the locality, was arrested in the Ballymahon Street area of town at around 1:30am.
The Leader understands the suspect had been spotted earlier in the evening acting suspiciously, resulting in gardaí being called.
He was arrested shortly afterwards and brought to Longford garda station for questioning.
It's also believed a knife was recovered and seized by gardaí.
"Gardaí arrested a charged a male (aged in his 20s) who was found to be in possession of an offensive weapon in Longford town in the early hours of this morning," said a garda spokesperson.
He is due to appear before Longford District Court at a later date.
