Longford and Cavan public urged to back Gowna funnyman Kevin McGahern as Dancing With The Stars returns tomorrow night

Dancing With The Stars celebrity Kevin McGahern will be returning to the television screens tomorrow night (Sunday)

Comedian Kevin McGahern has spoken of how his decision to enter this season's Dancing With The Stars series "frightened the life" out of him.

The father of two has safely made it through the opening stages of the hit RTÉ show, wowing audiences with his fancy footwork alongside pro dance partner Laura Nolan.

Yet, despite seeing off two celebrities in the shape of Leah O'Rourke and former state pathologist Marie Cassidy, the Gowna funnyman is not resting on his laurels.

"It's going well, but we have been through a serious amount of work," he said.

"The start of the week is rough because it's hard to pick the (dance) moves up and then you start thinking that it's just not clicking but by the Thursday and Friday all of that changes.

"I've lost a sight of weight too. I used to have a bit of fat on my side, but that's gone down from a Cadbury's cream size amount to a malteser size which isn't too bad."

Last week, Kevin and Laura managed a more than respectable 21 points from the judges in a score which, combined with the public's vote, guaranteed the former Cnoc Mhuire student's participation for another week at least.

Laid back and easy going at the best of times, Kevin will, nonetheless be hoping members of the voting public across Longford and Cavan do all they can tonight (Sunday) night to ensure his safe passage through for another week at least.

"Sometimes you get good comments and marks, but at the end of the day it is the public that decide your fate," he said.

The 36-year-old father of two is not your stereotypical celebrity. Kevin has, for all his claim to fame, remained grounded and humble, a trait which has more than served him well in his blossoming stand up career.

A family man to the core, our chat ahead of Sunday night's show took place as Kevin took his children to the park for a much needed dose of down time.

In speakingly glowingly of the support he has received from his family including his wife Siobhan and parents Una and Sean, Kevin is equally proud of his roots and the many anecdotes behind those ties.

"My first job was in Granard Mart disinfecting tyres at the time of the foot and mouth crisis," he recalls, somewhat comically.

"I did that under the tutelage of Terry McGovern and Alex Small, two legends of Granard."

And while the leap from Granard Mart to Dancing With The Stars may be of gargantuan proportions for some to comprehend, it's a journey which illustrates just how far the name Kevin McGahern has come.

To get behind Kevin in his quest to make it through another week, tune into Dancing With The Stars on RTÉ One at 6:30pm tonight (Sunday).
