Longford ladies defeated by stronger Down side

After their excellent win at home to Offaly in the previous round, Longford had to settle for second best against a stronger Down side in the Lidl Ladies Football National League Division 3 clash at Pairc Esler in Newry on Sunday last.

Down . . . 4-13    Longford . . . 0-7

Alan Mullen’s youthful squad will be hoping to get back on track with home advantage against Sligo in the Round 3 fixture (venue tbc)  on Sunday next (2pm) in the bid to avoid a relegation battle. 

Down dominated the first half to hold a commanding 1-10 to 0-4 lead at the break with Funmi Talabi, Edel Sheehy (2) and Kamille Burke accounting for the Longford scores.

There was just no stopping the superior home side who added another 3-3 to their emphatic tally in the second half while Longford replied with three consolation points, the first from Ella O’Reilly with four minutes gone on the changeover.
