Aodh Dervin, a driving force in the midfield sector for Longford Town
In the aftermath of the disappointing start to the season in losing out to Athlone at Bishopsgate the previous week, the odds were stacked against Longford Town springing a surprise against the First Division title favourites Waterford at the RSC on Friday night.
Waterford FC . . . 1 Longford Town . . . 1
Despite the setback of conceding an own goal with just six minutes gone in the game, the Town battled back for a brilliant draw with substitute Mohammed Boudiaf scoring the equaliser from a header in the 56th minute.
It was a happy return to the RSC for the former Waterford boss Stephen Henderson who was obviously delighted with the result and the focus is now fixed on another of his former clubs, Cobh Ramblers, who come to Bishopsgate on Saturday night next in a confident mood after winning their first two fixtures.
Longford Town could have won the game at the RSC in second half injury-time when another substitute Francis Campbell dispossessed the Waterford defence to latch onto the ball on the left-side of the area but his shot just cleared the crossbar in the exciting finish.
