Longford Town earned their second point of the SSE Airtricity First Division campaign by following up on last week’s 1-1 draw away to Waterford with a scoreless draw against Cobh Ramblers at Bishopsgate on Saturday night.

The Munster side came into the contest with maximum points from their opening two games after wins over Wexford FC and Kerry FC, so a point for Stephen Henderson’s charges is a good outcome for what is a vastly changed Longford Town squad from last season.
Cobh were a very dangerous counter attacking side on the night and this avenue will certainly provide them with a lot of goals throughout the season, but the Town defence impressively kept a clean sheet.
Longford had the best chance of breaking the deadlock in the first half when striker Jamal Ibrahim almost found the Cobh net twice in the thirty-eighth minute. Elworthy released Giurgi down the right and his pin-point cross was headed against the Cobh crossbar by Ibrahim from ten yards out. Seconds later, Kyle O’Connor whipped in a cross from the left that the Town striker headed wide.
Cobh thought they had scored a late, late winner two minutes into stoppage time when a Doherty free-kick was headed to the net by the towering Phillips only for the flag to be raised for offside, much to the relief of the home supporters.
Next up for the Town is a trip to the Carlisle Grounds on Friday to take on second placed Bray Wanderers.
