Longford Meals on Wheels highlight funding pressures

The National Meals on Wheels Network, under the umbrella of Irish Rural Link, hosted an information and media event outside Leinster House and inside Buswells Hotel, Dublin last Thursday, March 9.


Meals on Wheels providers from several counties were in attendance to highlight the service and the funding pressures that are currently being experienced across all Meals on Wheels Services nationally.


Longford Meals on Wheels, along with other providers, are currently under huge pressure due to funding shortages and the increased cost of food, utilities, energy and diesel.


The Dublin event gave the providers the opportunity to highlight their services to all deputies, senators and press who attended, and to talk about the pressures being experienced by all of them.


Minister Mary Butler TD also attended and took time to speak with all providers. Two local deputies Longford /Westmeath Robert Troy FF and Sorca Clarke SF gave their support, as did Marian Harkin (Ind Sligo/Leitrim) and Senator Eugene Murphy Roscommon .
