Fears over the whereabouts of matched funding designed to add a purpose built Norman settlement village to one of north Longford's most prominent tourism attractions was revealed last week.

Plans to deliver a €3.8m Norman Heritage Park to Granard's Knights and Conquests Heritage Centre were announced almost three years ago.

Tourism agency Fáilte Ireland also allocated €640,000 to the project in a move which at the time was flagged as being a venue capable of enticing 40,000 people a year to the region.

However, Cllr Turlough McGovern said there were fears matched funding for the project “is being spent somewhere else”.

Director of Services Barbara Heslin said despite not being present at a recent meeting between regeneration officials and representatives from the group, she was aware a senior figure from the Regeneration Departmet would be in touch with Cllr McGovern to clarify the situation.
