Longford U-17s away to Laois in the Leinster Minor Championship

With Clonguish clubman Tony Devlin back in charge for a second stint as the Longford minor manager, the U-17 footballers play their opening game in the group stage of the 2023 Leinster Championship against Laois at O’Moore Park this Wednesday evening, throw-in 7.30pm.

The other members of the management team are Emmet Toher (Killoe), Stephen Coy (Killoe) and Gavin McNerney (Dromard) and a lot of hard work has gone into preparing the squad for the provincial series. A number of challenge games have taken place in the build up, most recently a close encounter against Cavan. 

Captained by Alex Nugent (Mostrim), Longford will head to Portlaoise in the hope of achieving a positive result with other tough games to come at home to Kildare (Wednesday April 12) and away to Offaly (Thursday April 27). 

The top three teams in the group will qualify for the knockout stage.
