Longford Town travel to the Markets Field in Limerick on Friday (kick-off 7.45pm) to play Tommy Barrett's much changed squad than that which played the Town on four occasions last season. There are quite a few new faces in the current Treaty squad but they still have a good backbone of players from last season.
There will be one familiar face in the Longford Town team as Jack Brady was Treaty's no 1 keeper last season and he has proven to be a very astute signing by Stephen Henderson.
Jack has been in inspirational form for the Town since rejoining the club this year and he had another clean sheet on Saturday night last against the league newcomers Kerry FC.
The Town team that lined-out against Kerry showed two changes from the side that started against Galway the previous weekend.
Centre half Oisin Hand came back into defence and Joshua Giurgi came in up front. Once again the Town were short James Doona, Aaron Walsh, Cristian Mageruson and Mohammed Boudiaf and manager Henderson will be hoping that they will all be back in contention for a starting position in the team very soon. This game was a very special one for Joshua Giurgi who scored his first two goals for the club as the Town recorded their first win of the season.
To win by two goals and also keeping a clean sheet must be very pleasing for manager Henderson.
The Town and Treaty played each other on four occasions last season and Treaty came out on top results wise.
The first meeting between the clubs was in Bishopsgate in April and that game ended scoreless as did the second game in Limerick in mid May.
Treaty were at home again in early July and on that occasion it was a 3-0 victory to the Limerick side.
After a scoreless first half the home side took the lead on 58 minutes when Mark Ludden scored from the spot and 8 minutes later Enda Curran increased their lead and this was also a penalty.
Curran made the game safe in the 88th minute with his second and Treaty's third goal.
The final league meeting between the clubs was at Bishopsgate at the end of September and that ended in a 1-1 draw.
Sam Verdon gave the Town the lead in the 15th minute but Enda Curran equalised almost on the stroke of half- time.
Like the Town the current Treaty side have quite a few changes from last season and they are struggling to have a good run of results.
Enda Curran no doubt is their star performer, he can score goals on a very regular basis and he has won many matches on his own through his prolific scoring. Like the Town this season, Treaty are at the wrong end of the table but Stephen Henderson will be hoping for the first away win on Friday and chase a spot in the top half of the table and a place in the play-offs.
The Town's problem is mainly up front and the return of Cristian Mageruson is vital for Henderson to get his team moving up the table.
On Saturday week the Town play their final game in the first round of games when supporters have a chance to shout on the new look team against Wexford who have eight or nine ex-Town players in their squad.
