Longford County Council picked up the prestigious Public Sector Award at the Health & Safety Excellence awards ceremony on Wednesday, March 29 in Dublin’s Crowne Plaza Hotel.
Longford County Council edged out stiff competition from Limerick County Council and the Department of Finance, with judges assessing Health and Safety Management Systems in areas such as commitment and responsibility, organisational targets, outcomes and results and future uses.
Longford County Council was also nominated as a finalist for the overall Health & Safety Excellence Grand Prix Award.
Longford County Council Cathaoirleach Cllr Turlough McGovern paid tribute to all involved in the winning of the award.
“Congratulations to all Council employees, the management team and other stakeholders on the achievement of this significant nationwide award – it’s wonderful recognition of the dedication shown to health and safety in this organisation.
It also puts Longford County Council firmly on the map as a national leader when it comes to health and safety in the public sector.”
Welcoming the accolade, Chief Executive Paddy Mahon said “I’m delighted with this achievement, not only for our wonderful Health and Safety team, but also for every single employee here in Longford County Council.
We all complete the relevant training, adhere to the standards that have been set by our safety management system and that effort combines to maintain our healthy and safe working environment, so this is a fantastic organisation-wide achievement.”
Launched in 2020, the Health & Safety Excellence Awards recognise and reward the most outstanding Health & Safety achievements in Ireland and the teams that drive them.
