Congratulations to former Dromard and Longford GAA player Gary Maguire, Legga/New York, and Nicole Cusumano Staten Island, New York, who were married recently in Hamilton, New Jersey.
Gary is the son of John Leo and Josie Maguire, Legga, and Nicole is the daughter of Charlie and Gina Cusumano, Staten Island. All throughout his playing career, Gary was a prolific scorer for Dromard GAA. A very talented footballer, his move to New York was a huge loss to the county and club. READ MORE BELOW PHOTO
At underage level, he was key on several Dromard teams that won various leagues, including a Minor B Championship. He played for Longford at all levels, Under 14, U16, and U18/Minor, and was called up for the Under 21 squad when he chose to emigrate to the USA.
Gary was a top attacking forward on the Moyne Community School Senior team in their Leinster title bid, where he successfully completed his Leaving Cert before moving on to Cavan College. He won an All-Ireland Higher Education medal with Cavan Institute in 2011 along with his fellow club men; Michael Reynolds and Sean McNerney
Gary moved to New York around 8 years ago at the age of 22 where he won a number of championships including an Intermediate Championship in 2017 and the coveted and memorable Senior Football Championship with Longford GAA New York in 2018 when Longford beat Monaghan GAA New York in the final by one point.
Coincidentally, the captain of the Longford team was Darren (Chippy) Farley, originally from Drumlish and Fr Manning Gaels GFC , and the son of Gary's former next-door neighbour, Maggie Farley nee Maggie Maguire, Legga.
Still winning accolades, Gary was recently awarded "Longford GAA Player of the Year in New York".
Gary's wife Nicole is the daughter of Charlie and Gina Cusumano and is from Staten Island, New York. She too was a gifted athlete, she was a fantastic swimmer, competing at the very highest levels.
Nicole has always been very focused and an incredibly hard worker, she is a Physician Assistant Certified (PAC) at Staten Island University Hospital, and prior to that she studied for a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies at Wagner College.
Gary and Nicole have set up home in Red Bank, New Jersey where they bought their first first house last July.
The club wishes Gary and Nicole a very long and very happy life together and we look forward to celebrating with them and congratulating them in person on their next trip to Ireland.
Congratulations and best wishes Gary and Nicole and to the Maguire and Cosumano families.
