After recovering well from the setback of losing to Lancashire in the opening round of the championship with vital wins over Warwickshire and Leitrim, the Longford senior hurlers are back on track in the quest to reach the Lory Meagher Cup final at Croke Park for the second year in succession.
Standing in their way are neighbouring rivals Cavan who come to Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Saturday for a crunch Round 4 clash (throw-in 12 noon) and both sides are locked together at the top of the group stage table.
Apart from the surprise defeat away to Warwickshire in the first round of the Lory Meagher Cup, the revitalised Cavan hurlers are enjoying a fine season and beat Longford on their way to winning the National League Division 3B title.
The two wins in the Lory Meagher Cup against Lancashire and Monaghan clearly suggests that Cavan will be a tough nut to crack and while a close encounter is probably in prospect, Longford will hopefully have the edge in the battle for a place in the title decider.
Adrian Moran’s Longford will play their remaining group stage fixture away to Monaghan the following weekend and it could go right down to the wire to determine the finalists in the 2023 Lory Meagher Cup.
