Longford's Ciaran Mullooly pours cold water on Fianna Fáil Euro bid

RTÉ wage under reporting over Tubridy fallout slammed as ‘a betrayal’, storms Longford's former Montrose journalist

Ciaran Mullooly

Former RTE Midlands correspondent Ciaran Mullooly has scotched rumours that he has been selected to run as a candidate in the next European elections.

Mr Mullooly, who retired in 2021 after 27 years with the State broadcaster, was first mentioned as a potential option for Fianna Fáil this time last year.

At that time sources in the party said Mr Mullooly was approached by Noel Dempsey, a former Fianna Fáil minister, to consider running as a candidate Midlands North-West constituency.

The party has no MEP in the constituency, and only holds two of Ireland's 13 seats.

“I am running for nobody, I have made no decision on it at present. Come back to me after Christmas,” he said when the rumour was put to him.

“I am going to a wedding in the United States and I have no interest in even thinking about it. According to the Daily Mail I am running for Fianna Fáil, perhaps you should ask them about it.”
