Fr Manning Gaels started their 2023 Intermediate Football Championship campaign with a one-point win over Ardagh/Moydow at Michael Fay Park on Sunday evening.

Fr Manning Gaels . . . 2-12  Ardagh Moydow . . . 1-14

Last year’s beaten finalists, leading by 2-8 to 0-7 at one stage in the second half, were hard pressed to shake off a dogged Ardagh Moydow challenge. The Gaels were reduced to 14 men in the closing stages when Martin Cassidy received a second yellow card.

An understrength Ardagh Moydow will be disappointed not to get something from this game. They were missing regular starters Killian Farrell, Dylan Coady (both injured) and Dylan Fay. The absence of the experienced Farrell (a long term injury) was sorely  felt in their attack.

FR MANNING GAELS: Paddy Collum (1-1, penalty, ’45); Mark Breslin, Cian Brady, Paul McGee; Kaelum Gill (0-1), JP Farrelly, Dean Cosgrave; Sean Whelan, Pauric Gill (0-2); David Collum, Conor Keenan (0-2), Jamie Nertney; Aiden Gray, Martin Cassidy (0-3, 2f), Cian Cassidy (1-3).

Subs:- Ryan Crowe for D Collum (49 mins); Kevin Whelan for Gray (54 mins).

ARDAGH MOYDOW: Brian Farrell; Brendan Finnan, Gerard Farrell (0-1), Mark McCord; Diarmuid Farrell, Conor Carroll, Kyle Garcia; Paddy Keenan (0-5, 4f), Emmet Donlon; Shane Henry (0-1), Elliott Vaughan (0-1), Adam Reilly; Connor Hogan (0-4, 1f), Fergal Farrell, Aaron McTiernan (1-2).

Subs:- Cian Hartmann for S Henry (36 mins); Jack Gallagher for F Farrell (39 mins).

Referee: Hugh O’Kane.
