Longford crowds to flock to annual return of Breffni 3 Province Challenge

Participants, young and old, are expected to take part in next weekend's Breffni 3 Province Challenge

The Breffni 3 Province Challenge 2023 returns next weekend in what promises to be one of the most eagerly awaited social and health orientated events on the local calendar.

 

After reaching the €1.2 million mark, the event is building a second million for their three chosen charities.


The August Bank Holiday event will bring participants through the three provinces of Ulster, Connaught and Leinster. This is the 22nd year of the Challenge aimed at raising much needed funds for St Luke's Oncology Trust, Breast Cancer Research Ireland and Cavan/Monaghan Cancer Homecare Association


Starting and finishing in Arva, participants can avail of distances for all abilities. The Athletics Association of Ireland approved Half-Marathon is a timed race,as is the popular 10k route. Finally, there’s a 5k Family fun run/walk to cater for everyone.


For leisure cyclists the 30k ride will take them from Arva to Carrigallen to Killeshandra, returning to Arva. For the more serious cyclists there is a 100k route taking in Killeshandra, Mohill, Drumlish and Granard.


All our participants will receive a beautiful technical t-shirt and custom-designed medal and will be treated to live music, great food and a Welcome Home Party in the Market Square, Arva.

Start times for the notebook: 100k Cycle: 10am; 30k Cycle: 12.30pm; Half Marathon Run: 1pm; 10K Run: 1.10pm; :5K Run 1.15pm

All funds raised go to three cancer charities.


*St. Luke’s Oncology Trust delivers treatment and care to those who are fighting a variety of cancers. Based in Rathgar, Dublin, St. Luke’s are now responsible for the running of a number of oncology units in different hospitals throughout the capital.


*Breast Cancer Research, based in Galway, are at the forefront of research into the prevention, treatment and eradication of one the most prevalent forms of cancer in Ireland.


*Cavan/Monaghan Cancer Home Care Association provide the assistance required by people suffering from this nightmare disease. From medical equipment and bedding, to transport to and from the hospital and financial assistance.


Breffni Challenge 2023 Key Facts

Over €1,200,000 has been raised over the 21 annual events to date
5 events in total - 3 on foot and 2 cycling
5k, 10k and Half Marathon walking and running events
25k and 100k cycling events
Our Half Marathon & 10k routes are AAI Certified and will be Chip timed!

Registration for all events takes place in St Patrick's Hall Arva on Friday 4th August from 7-9pm and Saturday 5th August from 09:00 – 13.30
