Attic House volunteers left reeling as brazen thieves ransack Longford youth centre

Longford Attic House

Longford's Attic House was targeted by thieves last week

The theft of computer equipment from the award winning teen project Attic House has been described as a “set back” by volunteers.

Gardai detained two people in connection with the burglary, but investigations are ongoing. CCTV footage from the premises was unavailable as the harddrive recorder was stolen in the raid.

The perpetrator gained access to the building last Wednesday (July 26) and the outside shed and stole a large amount of IT equipment.

Jim Maher, Secretary of Attic House Management Committee, said the robbery was particularly callous: “Crime, be it big or small, has a huge implication on people and the wider community. I suppose it's hard hitting because of the target of this crime as it is a voluntary community project, built and supported by the people of Longford for the people of Longford.”

“It's sad to think this could happen to a local charity like the Attic House, meaning there is definitely no moral thinking to crime, everyone is a target.”

The Gardaí detained two people in connection with the burglary, but their investigations are ongoing. Jim concluded by saying : “We would like to pay tribute to the Longford Gardai who we have witnessed first hand their diligence, support and overall professionalism as they investigate this crime on our behalf.”
