Daniel Mimnagh and Denis McGoldrick netted the goals as Killoe nailed down a marker on their senior championship credentials with a 15 point hammering over Rathcline at Michael Moran Park in Carrickedmond on Sunday evening
Killoe Emmet Og . . . 2-16 Rathcline . . . 0-7
In gaining revenge for their surprise defeat in the opening round of the 2022 championship, Emmet Og found serious form in the first half to clock up a 15 point lead on their outclassed opponents.
McGoldrick finished a slick move to the net only a matter of seconds after a Micheal Hughes long kick out. This was only a nod of what was to come as Killoe were performing excellently with inside forwards Mark Hughes and Paddy Moran firing on all cylinders.
Paddy Moran, in his first year at senior level, accompanies the experienced duo of Mimnagh and Hughes very well and the pace on the inside line is frightening for any opposition. Moran kicked 3 first half points including a fine mark.
Danny Mimnagh punched in Killoe’s second goal after really pristine play to take a 2-6 to 0-1 point lead after 20 minutes and it was all over as a contest
Emmet Óg limited Rathcline to just two frees from Oran Kenny in the first half as the Lanesboro outfit trailed by 2-11 to 0-2 at the break. Enda Lyons’ side had to field without numerous starters including some of their best players.
Shane Kenny, Shane Donohoe and James Carroll have formed the spine of the Rathcline team for numerous years while Longford defender Iarla O’Sullivan is in Boston at the moment. Lyons will need to see the return of his most potent players for the Round 3 clash against Abbeylara on Saturday evening next.
