Dromard pipped Clonguish at Lynch Park in Abbeylara on Sunday evening in what was definitely one of the best games in the senior football championship so far.
Dromard . . . 0-17 Clonguish . . . 1-13
The timeless Francis McGee cleverly chipped his injury time penalty over the bar to give Dromard a rewarding one point victory against their old rivals.
Referee Hugh O’Kane, who marshalled the game excellently and undoubtedly added to the encounter, allowed Clonguish one more chance but Liam Belton’s side lost possession and McGee’s cautiousness was rewarded.
The titans of the 2000’s have an array of talent in their arsenal once again and the large crowd at Lynch Park were treated to a truly brilliant game of football.
It was a clean, fast paced game with little pedestrian play and plenty of scores. Plenty of present county players were in action as well as past and undoubtedly future Longford players who contributed to this game very well.
Joseph Hagan and Matthew Carey were the scorers in chief and both men are equally adept with both feet, showcasing an excellent skill set on their way to tallying 5 points apiece.
