Longford children aged six and seven can now avail of free GP care

Local Fianna Fáil TD Joe Flaherty has welcomed the extension of free GP care to all children under the age of eight. Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly implemented the measure from Friday, August 11.
Families can now register their children aged six and seven for a GP Visit Card. It means children can visit their doctor at no cost. In addition to free visits to GP surgeries, it also includes home visits and out-of-hours urgent GP care.

Deputy Flaherty said, “The extension of free GP care for children aged six and seven is a hugely important milestone. It means all children will be able to see their doctor regardless of their ability to pay. It will be of huge benefit to families many of whom are struggling due to the increased cost of living.”
