Building on the success of over a decade of entertaining the masses, the 2023 Marquee in Drumlish Festival has been acknowledged as a “great success” by organisers.

Organising committee member for the annual event, Cllr Paraic Brady said: “The weekend didn't enjoy the best of weather, but we were pleased with the way things went. Friday's weather was a bit of a let down, but overall it was a huge success,” he told the Leader.

The four fantastic nights of musical entertainment was a showcase for a wide range of talented musicians who plied their trade on the stages in Drumlish.

From the opening night Oasis tribute band Live Forever to the closing by Declan Nearney the audience were wowed by the acts: “The numbers would have been slightly down on last year, but we still had a good crowd and the entertainment was of a very high standard,” said Cllr Brady.

The Saturday line up included Johnny Brady, Ray Lynam and Mike Denver, while Sunday's entertainment was All Folk’d Up, Ruaile Buaile and local group Cronin.

The last night of the festival, as always, saw Declan Nerney take centre stage, with the Tumbling Paddies playing support.
Paraic says the programme was a major hit with the audience: “We do get big named acts, but the thing that makes the Festival so popular is the community aspect of it.

“We are run by a dedicated group of volunteers. Without them the festival could not go ahead. Last night was brilliant. Declan's connection with the Festival makes it so special.”

The committee member thanked all who made the 2023 Marquee in Drumlish Festival possible: “We are lucky to have a festival that runs so smoothly.

“Without the help and support of the community that would not happen. It's so important for Fr Manning Gaels.

“Without it development at the club would be much more difficult. It is part of our history and heritage.

“People come here and know they are going to enjoy themselves. We always have return crowds, so we must be doing something right,” Cllr Brady concluded.

Chairman of the Marquee in Drumlish Festival, Michael Mulleady, emphasised the importance of the community support: “We have to thank the organising committee and everyone in Fr Manning Gaels for all the effort they put in to make the Festival possible.

“There are so many people who work over the weekend to make it possible, bar staff, stewards, and security. Their work is so valuable and without them there is no festival.

“A special mention to the local Gardaí for their efforts as well. Finally we have to thank everyone who came to the Festival, the paying punters.

“They are the lifeblood of this Festival and we owe them a deep debt of gratitude.”
