The conversion of an iconic landmark in Granard to accommodate a number of new apartments has been approved by local authority planners.
Michael G. O'Reilly was granted permission by Longford County Council to change the use of a créche and a two-storey extension at the rear of a house to apartments at The Granada, Granard.
The applicant had sought the change of use from a crèche unit on the ground floor and a two-storey rear extension of existing building. The change will see the spaces converted to nine apartment units, with associated private garden ground and balconies.
The floors will consist of the following: three two-bedroom apartments and two three-bedroom apartments at ground floor level; On the first floor there will be one two-bedroom apartment and one three-bedroom apartment; the second floor will have one two-bedroom apartment and one three-bedroom apartment.
The development will also include the construction of seven dormer windows, modifications to the roof at south-west corner, modifications to the east, west and north courtyard elevations with proposed new window and doors.
There will be a proposed recessed private open space area at ground floor level to apartment three. The development will include the demolition of two external staircases, the construction of a new stainless steel external staircase serving the existing duplex units and apartments at first floor level. The internal area will be reconfigured at ground floor level to accommodate bicycle storage, construction of a new refuse storage area externally to service all apartments and revised parking layout.
All associated site development works and landscaping are covered in the approval. The local authority granted the application without conditions.
