Clonguish reached their first Connolly Cup quarter-final in four years after cruising to a 19 point win over the previously unbeaten Granard St Mary’s in the Senior Football Championship Group 1 Round 5 clash on Saturday evening last.

Clonguish . . . 4-14    St Mary’s Granard . . . 0-7

In front of a large crowd in Monaduff on a perfect evening, electric forwards Jack Duggan, Michael Flynn and Matthew Carey impressed for Clonguish who had done their spade work in the first half to hold a commanding 2-8 to 0-4 lead at the break with Matthew Flynn and Michael Flynn scoring the goals against lethargic Granard who were already qualified for the knockout stage.

Second half goals for Michael Flynn and a Matthew Carey penalty in the 40th minute confirmed another pleasing performance for Clonguish who advance to meet Mullinalaghta in the quarter-final at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Sunday September 17.
