Sean Connolly’s are just a step away from winning the Intermediate Football Championship title for the first time since 1989 after scoring a very easy win over Killashee in the semi-final clash at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Saturday.
Sean Connolly’s . . . 3-14 St Brigid’s Killashee . . . 0-8
St Brigid’s were shattered after conceding three goals in the first quarter of the game and Connolly’s found the back of the net with just four minutes gone on the clock when a shot from Daniel Reynolds was deflected to the net by an unfortunate opposing defender.
That own goal was a cruel blow for the underdogs, missing many players this season, and things went from bad to worse as the rampant Ballinalee side built up a commanding 3-2 to 0-0 lead approaching the midway point in the first half.
Lethal corner-forward Daniel Reynolds and powerful midfielder Daire Duggan weaved their way through for well-taken goals and there was no way back for Killashee who trailed by 3-6 to 0-2 at the break.
