Longford filmmakers Robert Higgins and Patrick McGivney
Robert Higgins and Patrick McGivney two filmmakers from Longford have signed with US talent company Berwick & Kovacik.
The two Longford men are the writer ,directors and producers of the multi award-winning film LAKELANDS. The feature was filmed in their hometown of Granard and Gowna , Cavan. The film is based on the world of Small town GAA and explores this topic from the inside. The film has picked up a number of awards including Best Irish Film and the Bingham Ray New Talent Award for its lead actors at the Galway Film Fleadh, Best Film at the Kerry Film Festival and the Bankside Marketplace award at the Galway Film Fair. It had its international premiere at Santa Barbara Film Festival and its UK premiere at Glasgow Film Festival before winning awards in France and the United States during its festival run. It was nominated for 4 IFTA including Best Film.
Robert Higgins expressed his delight at signing with the US talent company, stating that they are "very excited to be working with Berwick & Kovacik on our upcoming slate of projects alongside our UK representation at Curtis Brown, we really clicked from the first meeting and can’t wait to see what the collaboration might bring”. Patrick McGivney added that “It’s always been a goal of ours to work within the US film sector and we hope that working alongside Berwick & Kovacik will help make this happen".
The duo are currently working on a number of projects with Screen Ireland , which includes working on their script for the feature 'Bonfires' and are also developing a number of projects as producers .
