Members of Ballymahon Municipal District have requested that two elected members be allowed to sit on a sub committee that is to be set up in the wake of a €500,000 funding announcement for the ESB Community Package in Lanesboro.

At last week’s meeting of Ballymahon Municipal District, Director of Services Sam Healy explained that a sub committee was to be set up and expressions of interest to be invited for allocation of the significant Just Transition funding sum, which was announced in August.

The funding will see a number of projects in Lanesboro considered, with the first sub committee meeting to take place “within the next month or so”.

“There are a number of projects people are hoping to progress in the town,” said Ms Healy.

However, on hearing that an elected member would not be a part of the sub committee, Lanesboro’s Cllr Mark Casey raised questions.

“Would it not be better to have the two local councillors on that committee?” he asked.

Cllr Mick Cahill (pictured) was quick to back him up, stating that it was “very important the councillors are involved as they’re elected by the local community”.

Ms Healy agreed to bring the request back to management.
