Big weekend in north Longford as Ballymore GAA/LGFA host walkathon fundraiser

On the bank holiday weekend, October  27 - 28 Ballymore GAA grounds will be a hive of activity as they will host a 24hr walkathon to raise funds for the development of the club.

The Walkathon will take place on their new flood-lit walkway on the grounds of Ballymore GAA.

Over 20 team captains were tasked with putting together their own teams and coming up with fundraiser ideas. They have worked tirelessly over the past number of weeks to raise funds and our community has been buzzing with events.

Pauline Drake remarked, “We’ve had a table quiz, poker night, kids disco, 5k run, cake-sale, kids movie night and a celebration concert of Irish music and dance with a couple more events still to take place. We’ve also had huge support from our local businesses in way of sponsorship and each of them will be thanked over the weekend of our walk and in the lead up to the event through our social media pages.”

The walkathon will start on Friday, October 27 with the fist team setting off at 6pm. All teams taking turns of 1 hour slots will walk continuously over the 24 hours. At 10pm on Friday night there will be a memorial hour in honour of all club and community members who have passed. This will be a very special hour and all of the club and local community are invited to participate.

Pauline continued, “On Saturday, October 28 we will have all our ladies and mens clubs underage sections out walking and there will be loads of entertainment for all the family with Barbeque, face-painting and loads more. We invite everyone young and old to come in fancy dress over the course of the 24hrs.
