126 young people in Co Longford register to participate in Gaisce – The President’s Award
126 young people from Co. Longford have registered to participate in the Gaisce Presidents Award.
This Wednesday people will come together to celebrate Lá Gaisce. This day will recognise the achievements of the Gaisce participants in Longford and around the country. The organisation is encouraging everyone to celebrate the young people's commitment to the activities involved in gaining this award. The Gaisce Presidents award is described as a ''direct challenge from the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, to all young people to dream big and fulfil their potential ''.
Thousands of young people have already began the process of their journeys to gain their award. In total, 485,000 young people have registered for Gaisce, with over 250,000 completing their award. Each year 25,000 young people register for their Bronze, Silver and Gold Gaisce awards. Avril Ryan the CEO of Gaisce stated that the award is '' far more than a medal or certificate, it represents the personal growth of a young person and their commitment to the development of vital social and emotional competencies, from confidence and self-management to resilience and empathy - each Award representing an individual story for a young person to share and reflect on''. She added that she wants ''We want everyone to join us in celebrating their Gaisce achievements and journeys with us '' on Lá Gaisce this Wednesday.
