Senator Micheal Carrigy; Right: Lough Ree Power Station
The Government has this evening signed off on a €1.3m package to cover an expected seven figure shortfall brought about by the closure of Lough Ree Power station.
It is the third successive year in which the deficit has been counterbalanced after the Lanesboro based facility closed its doors in December 2020.
Fine Gael Senator Micheal Carrigy confirmed the news when speaking to longfordleader.ie this evening after Local Government Junior Minister Kieran O'Donnell approved the investment.
The Ballinalee based member of the Oireachtas said the announcement was pivotal in underpinning Longford County Council's financial position over the course of the next 12 months.
"I am delighted to be able to secure this funding for Longford County Council so that it is able to maintain services across its various divisions for 2024," he said.
Senator Carrigy said it was his aim to ensure similar government backed measures were secured for 2025 and 2026.
