Tributes paid after sad passing of retired Longford school teacher

People in the Dromard community and farther afield have paid tribute after the sad passing of a retired school teacher.

A respected member of the community, Michael Whelan of Drumgonny in Aughavas, Leitrim died on Thursday November 2 at his residence.

Those who passed through his classroom ended up in the four corners of the world such was the learning they received from him.

He reposed at his home on Saturday and Sunday and the removal took place to St Joseph's church, Aughavas followed by burial in Aughavas cemetery.

Large crowds were in attendance on both days and he is survived by his wife, sons, daughters and grandchildren and many friends and relatives.
