Longford family feud on drama festival circuit

Hoodwink Theatre Productions from Cavan will  perform “Bloodties”, a one act written by Elaine Birkett who also acts in the show, at the The Drama League of Ireland one act finals in Castleblayney.

One Longford actor will be treading the boards at the The Drama League of Ireland one act finals in Castleblayney as Hoodwink Theatre Productions made the final cut.


“Bloodties”, is a one act written by Elaine Birkett and features the acting tallent of local lady Vanessa Flood Galligan.
The Drama League of Ireland one act drama festival circuit threw up an unusual inter family rivalry.
Mostrim Players were out on their second trip on circuit with 'A Wolf By The Ears” a play written by Mattie Lennon.
The production was directed by Eileen Spillane, and the versatile cast is Jimmy Connell (Jimmy Jest), Richie Cheevers, James Hynes, John Rooney, Sean Doyle and Maeve Donnelly.


Mostrim Players competed against Hoodwink Theatre Productions from Cavan.
Directing and acting in the piece are Phil Gilbride and Vanessa Flood Galligan. Vanessa has acted and directed lots of plays by Mostrim Players, but it was a case of 'neighbour against neighbour' as Vanessa went up against her aunt, Eileen Spillane, the director of the Mostrim play.
Hoodwink Productions had a good weekend in Mullagh where they scooped the top spot in the confined, as well as a Best Actor nomination for Phil Gilbride and Best Actress nomination for Vanessa, with the Best Actress winner going to Elaine Birkett.


Before last weekend Hoodwink lay in third place overall in the confined section with two wins and second, putting them in a good position to reach the finals.
Carrigallen was a happy hunting ground for Hoodwink as the Best Actor in the Confined section went to Phil Gilbride, and the Best Actress in the Confined section went to Elaine. The group are now on their way to Monaghan.


The All Ireland One Act Finals taking place in Castleblayney on December 1 to December 3.
The line up for Castleblayney will see Prosperous Drama, Coolgreany Drama, Balally Players, Butt Drama Circle, Bunclody-Kilmyshall Drama Group and Corofin Dramatic Society compete in the Open Section.
The Confined Section are New Ross Drama Workshop, Oakhill Players, The Ray Leonard Players, Hoodwink Productions and Lucan Drama.
