Following the fixtures fiasco in the 2023 senior football tournament, tainted by a few walkovers in the group stage and including the Louth v Offaly semi-final, the Leinster GAA Council have made the decision to run the 2024 O’Byrne Cup on a knockout system.

The title holders Longford have received a bye through to the quarter-finals along with Westmeath and the neighbouring rivals will clash at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Saturday January 6, throw-in 2pm.

The winner of the midlands derby will be away to Meath or Louth in the semi-final and there will be another pre-season warm up exercise for Longford or Westmeath with the losers pitted in the semi-final of the reborn O’Byrne Shield competition on Saturday January 13.
