A fundraising draw and a music concert are just some of the efforts one Longford community is undertaking to enhance vital services.
The massive fundraising effort by the parish of Ardagh and Moydow will benefit a number of organisations in the community.
A Christmas concert featuring Simon Casey and a prize draw will raise funds for the parishes as well as the Ardagh and Moydow Community Centres.
Parish Priest, Fr Vincent Connaughton said: “I am delighted with the support that we received for the draw which will benefit many groups in our parish. There are fantastic prizes available including the first prize which is a Volkswagen ID4 all-electric car.
“Ardagh and Moydow is a fantastic community. I have to thank all the members of that community who got behind the draw and indeed all who supported us.”
There is an impressive list of prizes available including: 1st Volkswagen ID4, 2nd one year of petrol or diesel to a value of €5,000, 3rd one year of home heating oil to a value of €2,500, 4th a 2-night stay for two in the Cashel Palace Hotel, 5th €2,000, 6th €1,000, 7th €500, 8th €500, 9th €500, 10th €500.
Fr Connaughton added, “We have received fantastic support already for the draw with several businesses contributing or donating prizes.
“We are hoping more businesses reach out to us to sponsor some of the prizes before the draw takes place at the end of December.”
Fr Connaughton says the initiative brings many of the local community groups together for the benefit of the entire community: “Our community buildings including churches, community centres and the GAA facilities need continued investment and maintenance, and the proceeds of this draw will ensure that those facilities are available to the generations to come.”
“I sincerely appreciate the support for this parish fundraiser as we need to decrease the outstanding debt of €188,000.
“So many people have helped me with this draw and given their time, including all of those selling the tickets, businesses, and many others who support it financially,” Fr Connaughton told the Leader.
Fr Connaughton concluded: “It’s over 20 years since the parish had a fundraising campaign of this scale. I'm so grateful for the continued support in this campaign.
“Our draw will take place Thursday, December 28 in Ardagh Community Centre,” hesaid.
The parish has also arranged a Simon Casey Christmas concert that takes place in Ardagh on December 14, at 8pm and tickets are on sale for €20.
