The official turning on of the Christmas Lights in Ballyleague took place after 7pm mass on Saturday last December 9.
Lights committee Chairperson Noel Moran thanked all present and reflected upon the year just passed and lamented the loss of those in the community who had passed away during the year. In particular, he mentioned Pauline Farrell, who was a tremendous supporter of the Lights in many different ways, Tom Corcoran and Dennis Dunne who were also tremendous advocates of the lights. Noel alluded and lamented the passing of Dennis who would have been the main instigator of the setting up of the Lights committee in Ballyleague and who toiled at them for many years.
In recognition of the contribution that both Tom Corcoran and Dennis Dunne made to the lights over the years the Committee felt it fitting to invite their spouses Mary Corcoran and Noreen Dunne to perform the honour of turning on the Lights. Fr Daniel Uftioa blessed the crib and acknowledged the great work of the lights committee. Fr Dan was assisted by a colleague who was visiting from Kilbeggan. Although the lights are officially on the committee are hoping to have additional light features in place between Inver filling station and the Bridge in the coming weeks.
The committee also wishes to thank all those who have assisted in any way from putting up the lights, providing power or supporting us via our Church gate collection or go fund me page.
