Lanesboro and Ballyleague mourns death of wonderful friend and neighbour

Late Mabel Riozzi (née Murray), Ballyleague, Lanesboro, Longford

It is very sad to relate the death from one of the stalwart families from our community at the Regional Hospital, Mullingar on Sunday, December 10, 2023 - Mabel Riozzi formerly Mabel Murray from The Green, Lanesboro and later Ballyleague.

She was daughter of Jack and Jeanetta Murray and wife of Tom Riozzi all who predeceased her.

Mabel started her employment with Mrs Kelly in the local post office as a telephonist. She later transferred to the main Post & Telegraphs telephone centre in Drogheda.

It was in Drogheda she met her husband Tom Riozzi, and they moved back to her home community where Tom opened what proved to be a very popular chip shop.

Mabel was a warm and engaging lady who enjoys meeting locals and strangers alike. Her warm and welcoming greeting and smile was inimitable and it endeared her to everyone that had the pleasure to know her.

Mabel was a wonderful friend and neighbour and most obliging to anyone in need of assistance.

Mabel's remains reposed in Farrell’s Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 12 and her Funeral Mass took place in the Church of the Holy rosary, Ballyleague. Following Mass her remains were removed to Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan.

To her daughter, Martina, sons Roberto and GianCarlo, her brothers John, David, Danny, Willy, Sidney and Michael, sisters Helen and Irene, daughters in law Petra & Aisling, son in law Brian, grandchildren Marco, Lucia, T.J. Remi, Sophia, and Isabella, extended family & friends, we extend our sincere sympathy.
