New Longford senior football selector Cosmas Gilmore
Former Rathcline and Longford footballer Cosmas Gilmore is a new selector with the county senior football squad, replacing Leitrim’s James Glancy who has stepped down from the management team for personal reasons.
Now living in Galway and affiliated to the Barna club, Cosmas was a selector with the Galway U-20 footballers who beat Dublin 1-11 to 0-13 in the 2020 All-Ireland final at Croke Park.
A flying forward during his football career with Rathcline and Longford, Gilmore joins Paddy Christie (Dublin) and Dessie Sloyan (Sligo) on the county senior management team for the 2024 campaign.
Longford are back in action this Saturday against Westmeath in the pre-season O’Byrne Cup quarter-final at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park, throw-in 1.30pm.
Cosmas is a brother of former Longford football star and Longford GAA Chairperson Brendan Gilmore. He is deeply involved with the Barna club and he has also coached Galway underage development squads.
Cosmas captained Rathcline in 1996 when they won the Leader Cup, defeating Fr Manning Gaels by 2-7 to 1-7 in the final at Pearse Park. It was Rathcline's first time to win the senior football league competition since 1989.
