THE victim of a fatal road crash which occurred on the N17 during Storm Isha has been named as Longford native Jimmy Rowe.
Mr Rowe of No. 10 Slí Na Móna, Ballymahon, Longford, N39 FF98 and Tuam, Co Galway, died after his car veered off the road during powerful winds on Sunday.
He was aged in his 40s and lived with his partner in Kilcloghans, outside Tuam, where he had been working for a number of years.
It is understood he was travelling home after visiting family in Longford, when the tragedy occurred near Claremorris.
The late James (Jimmy) Rowe will be sadly missed by his loving mother Catherine, partner Berney, daughters and sons, sisters and brothers, stepfather, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours, and friends.
Jimmy will repose this Wednesday, January 24 in Tuam (161 Clochrán, Kilcloghans, Tuam, Co Galway, H54 C866) from 5pm. to 8pm.
He will repose on Thursday in Ballymahon (No. 10 Slí Na Móna, N39 FF98) from 5pm to 8pm.
Funeral Mass is Friday at noon in St. Matthew's Church, Ballymahon. Burial in Shrule Cemetery. The Mass can be streamed at http://www.facebook.com/St-Matthews-Church-Ballymahon-105348291110682/.
Speaking to the Irish Independent, Galway County Councillor Donagh Mark Killilea described Mr Rowe’s passing a ‘a terrible tragedy’.
The N17 at Lisduff has since reopened to traffic following the incident.
