The time has come for the gaelic football fans right across the county to start thinking about the Team of the Championship and to play their part in the selection of the eventual players to be honoured with Longford All Stars Awards for 2023.
An exciting new addition is a separate Ladies Football Team of the Championship, the first of its kind in the country, while individual players of the year in the Droplink Longford LGFA senior, intermediate and junior county competitions last year will also feature in the expanded awards scheme in an exact replica of the regular mens template.
The 2023 Mens and Ladies Team of the Championships will be revealed when the selections for the respective 15 positions are published in the Longford Leader, a couple of weeks before the Gala Awards Night in the Longford Arms Hotel on Saturday March 16.
The Mens Senior, Intermediate and Junior Football Championships, the Ladies Senior, Intermediate and Junior Championship and the Senior Hurling Championship will all feature players of the year.
Readers of the Longford Leader are also invited to nominate their Players of the Championship in each of the categories on the official coupon, which will double up for the Ladies Football awards.
The final phase of the selection process will see three nominations in each of the categories - Mens Senior, Intermediate and Junior football, Ladies Senior, Intermediate and Junior football and Senior hurling - and the seven individual award winners will be announced at the Longford GAA Awards Night in the Arms Hotel on March 16.
The 2024 O'Byrne Cup medals will also be presented at the function to the members of the Longford senior football squad.
Run by Longford GAA in association with the Longford Leader, the main man behind the annual Longford GAA All Stars is Sean Connolly’s clubman, Senator Michael Carrigy, whose initiative has raised thousands for charity since the awards scheme was first introduced back in 2006.
Completed coupons to reach the Longford Leader, Market Square, Longford in a sealed envelope marked 'Team of the Championship' before 2pm on Friday, March 1. This coupon will appear in the Leader until Friday, March 1. Readers can enter as often as they like. Entries will only be accepted on the official coupon in the Leader. (No photocopies).
